Privacy Policy
How we handle personal information when you browse, book, host, or pay on Jolt Ryde.
Last updated: May 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Jolt Ryde ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use our websites, applications, and related services (collectively, the "Platform"). It applies to drivers, hosts, and visitors. By using the Platform, you acknowledge this policy. Our Terms of Service govern your use of the Platform.
1. Who we are
Jolt Ryde operates an independent marketplace for electric-vehicle rentals. We are not affiliated with Tesla, Inc. For privacy questions or requests, contact privacy@joltryde.com.
2. Information we collect
We collect information you provide, information generated through your use of the Platform, and data from service providers.
Account and identity
- Email address, password (stored as a cryptographic hash), and account role (driver, host, or admin).
- Legal name and date of birth on your user profile.
- Consent timestamps when you accept our Terms, this Privacy Policy, or affirm that your information is accurate.
Driver profile (rental eligibility)
- Phone number and mailing address (street, city, state, postal code, country).
- Driver's license number, issuing state, and expiration date. This is sensitive identification data used to verify eligibility to rent.
Host profile
- Business or display name, phone, and business address when provided.
- Stripe Connect account identifiers and cached payout capability flags synced from Stripe.
Bookings and payments
- Rental dates, vehicle selection, rental status, pricing, and checkout hold timestamps.
- Payment amounts, currency, status, and Stripe identifiers (for example Checkout Session or PaymentIntent ids) linked to your rentals.
- When weekly billing features are enabled, a Stripe Customer id and saved payment method metadata for renewals or off-session charges you authorize.
Vehicle and connected-car data
- Vehicle listings hosts create (make, model, rates, availability, and operational status).
- If a host links Tesla Fleet access, OAuth tokens and related account metadata may be stored server-side to support features such as live vehicle summaries. Tokens are operational secrets and must be protected in production environments.
Technical and usage data
- Browser type, device information, IP address, and logs from our API and web servers for security, debugging, and fraud prevention.
- Authentication tokens you receive at login (in local development, tokens may be stored in browser local storage; production deployments should prefer httpOnly cookies).
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Create and secure accounts, authenticate users, and enforce role-based access.
- Complete driver and host onboarding and block bookings or listings until required fields are satisfied.
- Process reservations, calendar availability, checkout holds, and payment capture or refunds.
- Facilitate host payouts through Stripe Connect when enabled.
- Display masked license information to authorized administrators for support and compliance review.
- Communicate about bookings, payment outcomes, and account changes.
- Improve reliability, detect abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data in these circumstances:
- Between drivers and hosts — information needed to fulfill a rental (for example name, contact details, and trip dates) may be visible to the parties involved in that booking.
- Service providers — we use vendors that process data on our behalf, including Stripe for payments and Connect payouts, cloud hosting and database providers, and email or analytics tools if enabled. These providers are bound by contractual obligations to protect data and use it only for the services they provide to us.
- Administrators — authorized Jolt Ryde staff may access account, rental, and payment records for support, fraud review, and platform operations. Sensitive fields such as full license numbers may be masked in admin interfaces.
- Legal and safety — we may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and security of users or the public.
- Business transfers — information may transfer in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to continued protection consistent with this policy.
5. Payment data
Card numbers and bank details are collected and processed directly by Stripe, not stored in full on our servers. We receive limited payment metadata from Stripe (such as payment status, amounts, and Stripe object ids) to reconcile rentals and payouts. Stripe's privacy practices are described at stripe.com/privacy.
6. Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Platform, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal, tax, and accounting requirements. Rental and payment records may be kept for a longer period for audit and chargeback purposes. You may request deletion where applicable law allows; some records must be retained after account closure.
7. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the data, including access controls on API routes, hashed passwords, and restricted admin visibility for license numbers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. In development environments, some sensitive fields (such as license numbers or Tesla tokens) may be stored in plaintext for engineering convenience; production deployments should encrypt highly sensitive data at rest and restrict administrative access.
Protect your account credentials. Sign out on shared devices. Report suspected unauthorized access to privacy@joltryde.com.
8. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access or receive a copy of personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate profile data through account settings or by contacting support.
- Delete your account or request erasure, subject to legal exceptions.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent where processing is consent-based.
- Port data you provided in a structured, commonly used format where required by law.
California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA. We do not sell personal information as defined by California law. To exercise rights, email privacy@joltryde.com with enough detail for us to verify your identity. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.
9. Children
The Platform is not directed to individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a minor has provided data, contact us so we can delete it.
10. International users
We are based in the United States. If you access the Platform from other regions, your information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries where our service providers operate. Those locations may have different data-protection laws than your home jurisdiction.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we post revisions. Material changes may also be communicated through the Platform or by email where appropriate. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
12. Contact
